Privacy policy
Your circle stays private.
Alongside is a private space for a family circle. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it and the choices you have. In short: what you share is seen only by the people it’s shared with, we don’t sell personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, the name you choose, and, if you turn on texting, your mobile number.
- What you share in a circle: posts, replies, plans, photos, voice recordings and their transcripts, and who each one is shared with. People sometimes share health or personal details about someone they care about; please share only what that person would be comfortable with.
- Your choices: notification preferences, who can message you directly, blocks, mutes and reports.
- Texts you send to your circle’s number, when texting is set up for your circle.
- Questions and waitlist requests: your name, the email or phone number you give us, and your message.
- Payments: when paid memberships open, payments are handled by our payment processor. We receive confirmation and receipt details, never your full card number.
- Technical information: a sign-in cookie, and a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address that we keep briefly to prevent abuse, such as too many sign-in attempts.
How we use it
- To run your circle: show each person what’s shared with them, and send the notifications they’ve chosen.
- To sign you in, keep accounts secure and prevent abuse.
- To check messages before they’re delivered. Alongside may suggest rewording something, and holds messages flagged for possible threats or abuse for review. See how this works.
- To answer your questions and contact you about the waitlist.
- To process payments, once paid memberships open.
Notification emails and texts say who shared something, never what it says.
Who can see what
- People in your circle see only what’s shared with them. Being a circle administrator, or paying for the membership, gives no extra access.
- A helper someone chooses to manage their messages can see the messages held for that person, and nothing else.
- The Alongside team doesn’t read circle conversations, except to review a message someone reports, to review a message held for possible threats or abuse, or when needed for security or to meet a legal obligation.
Services that help us run Alongside
We use a small number of service providers, who may handle personal information only to provide their service to us:
- Vercel hosts the website, and a database provider stores circle information.
- Resend sends our emails.
- Twilio sends and receives text messages, for circles where texting is set up.
- Stripe processes payments, once paid memberships open.
- Anthropic provides an additional automated check of message wording, where it’s turned on.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
Text messages
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties. Your mobile number is used only for the texting you choose. See our texting terms.
Cookies
We use one cookie to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t use analytics services that follow you across websites.
Keeping and deleting information
- When you delete something you shared, it’s removed from your circle, along with its photo or recording.
- When you leave a circle, you lose access to it. What you shared stays with the circle unless you delete it first.
- To delete your account or get a copy of your information, email hello@alongsideassist.com.
Security
Sign-in uses one-time links, connections are encrypted, photos and recordings are served only to people allowed to see them, and access rules are enforced on our servers. No system is perfectly secure, so please share thoughtfully.
Children
Alongside isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
Your choices
You can change what you share, your notifications, who can message you directly and your texting settings at any time under My choices. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing hello@alongsideassist.com.
Changes
If we make important changes to this policy, we’ll update the date above and let account holders know by email.
